Water, air quality now safe after train derailment

Testing continues to show the water and air quality are safe following that train derailment two weeks ago by the Pennsylvania-Ohio state line, but health officials are setting up a clinic as a precaution.

It's been more than two weeks since that Norfolk Southern train derailed along the tracks in East Palestine, Ohio, forcing the evacuation of nearby homes, including those in western Beaver County.

Environmental officials insist there is no ongoing risk, following contamination from a controlled release of toxic chemicals, including vinyl chloride.

But, the Ohio Department of Health is opening a medical clinic to respond to neighbors' ongoing concerns over health issues, including headaches.

The clinic opened at noon at the First Church of Christ on West Martin Street. Nurses, mental health specialists, and toxicologists were on hand.

It's located on 20 W Main St. at the First Church of Christ with over the phone toxicologist available as well. Appointments are able to be scheduled at 234-564-7755 or 234-564-7888.
