PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The USC connection for this coming Backyard Brawl continues to grow.
It started with Pitt adding likely starting quarterback Kedon Slovis, a direct transfer from the University of Southern California. West Virginia then hired Slovis’ offensive coordinator Graham Harrell at USC and now the Mountaineers have their own former Trojans QB.
Five-star prospect JT Daniels committed to West Virginia for this season. The 6’3”, 210-pound quarterback started his career at USC before transferring to Georgia and now to WVU.
It was Daniels’ knee injury as a sophomore that opened the door for Slovis to become the Trojans starter. The now Pitt quarterback’s emergence led to Daniels leaving for Georgia. He was the Bulldogs starter late in the 2020 season but was beaten out by Stetson Bennett IV, who won a national championship in 2021.
Battling through the injuries over his four-year career, Daniels has completed 63.8% of his passes for 4,840 yards with 32 touchdowns,16 interceptions and a rating of 142.5.
He will battle with last season’s back-up Garrett Greene and redshirt freshman Will Crowder to win the starting position. Mountaineers starter the last two seasons, Jarret Doege, transferred to Western Kentucky.
