PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Ke'Bryan Hayes hits his first home run of the season in the top of the 9th inning as the Pirates beat the Padres 4-2 Saturday night.
J.T Brubaker pitched five innings, was charged with an unearned run and struck out three. Former Pirate Joe Musgrove struck out seven and gave up one run in his six innings pitched.
In a 1-1- tie in the seventh, Trent Grisham ripped an RBI single to right field to give the Padres the lead 2-1.
Dillon Peters and Anthony Banda got into jams but were able to pitch out of them as the Padres stranded 16 runners total in the game and stranded the bases loaded three times.
Diego Castillo led off the top of the 9th with a double into left field. After Tucipata Marcano walked, the Pirates had first and second no one out. Cal Mitchell wasn't able to get a bunt down in a sacrifice situation and struck out swinging.
Ke'Bryan Hayes saved his first home run of the season for the National League saves leader as he homered off Taylor Rodgers to the deepest part of the ballpark giving the Pirates a 4-2 lead in the 9th.
David Bednar slammed the door against his former team in the bottom of the 9th and picked up his ninth save of the season.
"We did a lot of things well," said Derek Shelton. "Obviously Key with the big hit there at the end, I mean the guy is leading the National League in saves and has really elite stuff. They kept grinding and we got out of jams, ended up executing pitches and had some big hits in the 9th."
