PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Ryan O’Hearn did something Tuesday no Pirates player had EVER done. The first-year Bucco drove in 10 runs with a grand slam and pair of three-run home runs as the Pirates beat Atlanta 12-4 Tuesday night.

O’Hearn hit a grand slam in the first inning. A three-run homer in the third and another three-run homer in the sixth inning.

It was 1,172 feet of home runs.

What is crazier, in the last game O’Hearn played at PNC Park, he hit a pair of home runs in a win over the Reds.

In his first two at bats O’Hearn became the first Pirate since Josh Bell on July 1, 2019 to drive in seven runs in a game and he did under an hour into the game.

It was his third grand slam of his career and the final home run was the 100th of his career.

O’Hearn is only the 11th player since RBI became an official stat in 1920 to have 10 RBIs and 3 home runs in a single game. The last time was Shohei Ohtani against Miami on September 19, 2024.

The last time the Pirates had a pair of 60-RBI players before the All-Star Break (O’Hearn and Brandon Lowe) was 1990 when Barry Bonds drove in 62 and Bobby Bonilla had 61.

Better Skenes

The first inning Paul Skenes threw only one first-pitch strike giving up a two-out single to trail early 1-0. After O’Hearn staked him to a lead, he gave up a no-out single to Ozzie Albies, but following that faced two over the minimum thanks to double plays in the fourth and fifth innings.

Skenes would finish with six innings for the first time in three starts

  • Final line-6 IP, 8 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 95 pitches (66 strikes)

It was Skenes first win since May 12 against Colorado and the Pirates first win in a game he started since that same day.

Reynolds rolling

After hitting .293 in June with 13 extra base hits and 14 RBI, Bryan Reynolds continues to move in July, he walked three times on Tuesday and has been on base 11 times already this month.

He also made a sliding catch to end the seventh inning.

The other Pirates RBIs of the night were Lowe with a single in the seventh inning and Nick Gonzales with one in the eighth.
