Ke’Bryan Hayes 1st Pirates 3B to win Gold Glove

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – No Pirate third baseman had ever won the Gold Glove Award, until Ke’Bryan Hayes did as it was announced Sunday night. It breaks a 10-year run by Rockies and Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado.

The 26-year-old led all MLB third baseman in Defensive Runs Saved with 21, that is according to the Fielding Bible with Ryan McMahon next at 17. Hayes is also fourth an any position in runs saved behind Daulton Varsho, Fernando Tatis and Andres Gimenez.

Hayes’ fielding percentage was .984 last season in 1,037.2 innings on 365 chances. For his career, just 22 errors in 1,110 chances in 3,105 innings.

Catcher Jacob Stallings is the last Pirate to win a Rawlings Gold Glove, that coming two years ago. 2023 Pirate Andrew McCutchen won the Gold Glove Award with the Bucs in 2012.

Local winner

While not a Pirate, Mt. Lebanon native and Cubs outfielder Ian Happ named the Gold Glove winner in left field for the second straight year. Happ tied for third among outfielders with 12 assists in 2023. He was up against David Peralta and Eddie Rosario.
