LATROBE, PA (93.7 The Fan) – GM Omar Khan said he expects Cam Heyward to be a part of the Steelers for years to come. What he said about wide receivers, Najee Harris, cap room and more on Thursday during his yearly news conference before camp practices begin.

WRs

Khan didn't rule out the possibility of upgrading at wide receiver or any other position for that matter. But he likes what he has right now.

"We have a lot of talented players in there and guys are going to contribute and guys that can do different things," Khan said. "So, I think you know the room. For me, I'm excited to see these guys work. It's day one."

To the point about it being day one, he said the receivers and the rest of the offense needs time to come together and he said he's excited to see their progress.

No Najee extension

Khan said not picking up Najee Harris' contract extension was what was best for the club.

"But I can tell you, we think the world of Najee," Khan said. "And just because that option was an exercise doesn't mean that he doesn't have a future here. You know, he represents us well. He's a great football player. He's great to have in the building. So, you know, I still see a future with Najee."

QB 1

The first few months with quarterback Russell Wilson have been 'great'. Khan is impressed with how hard he works.

"Russ is a leader," Khan said. "He's been a vet, played at a high level in this league for a long time. And I feel like we have leadership in every room on this roster right now. But, when we went into the offseason, we said to ourselves, if there's an opportunity to bring more leadership in a specific room, we're going to do it. The quarterback room, it's new. So, we have we have not only a Russ, Justin and Kyle, John Rhys got some great guys ahead of them to learn from."

There are no current plans to give any of the quarterbacks a contract extension. None of them are signed beyond this season.
