REPORT-Steelers to bring back Sutton, sign additional DB

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A key member of the Steelers defense before signing with Detroit and then released in March after charges of domestic violence, the Post-Gazette reports the Steelers will meet with corner Cameron Sutton and are expected to sign him to a one-year contract.

The charges are misdemeanor battery for Sutton as he eventually turned himself into Florida police after weeks of hiding out. The state ordered him to complete a pretrial diversion program and upon completion will decide prosecution.


Sutton signed with the Lions as a free agent following the 2022 season for three years, $33 million. He started all 17 games and all three of the Lions postseason matchups finishing with an interception and 65 tackles.

The 29-year-old was the Steelers third-round pick in 2017 out of Tennessee playing slot and outside corner. He became a regular starter in 2021 and started 39 of 84 games with the Steelers with 168 tackles (143 solo), eight interceptions, five forced fumbles, 12 tackles for loss and two sacks.

New DB

There is one confirmed signing, versatile defensive back Grayland Arnold comes to Pittsburgh after spending the last three years in Houston. Injuries limited him to 20 games from 2021-2023. Last season, his first year moving from corner to safety, in eight games he played 26% of the defensive snaps and 60% of the special teams snaps. Opposing offenses targeted him 10 times, nine of those were completed catches.

5'10", 187 pounds, the 26-year-old Arnold was Second Team All-Big 12 his final season at Baylor starting 11 games at safety with 46 tackles and six interceptions. He also averaged 12.4 yards per punt return.
