Steelers can't afford to lose Andy Weidl right now

The Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl is interviewing for the open Atlanta Falcons general manager position.

The thought of Weidl leaving during a head coach search in Pittsburgh should sent shivers down the spines of Steelers Nation.

Weidl is the top talent evaluator for the Steelers since coming to Pittsburgh in 2022.

He was the man that helped build the foundation for the Philadelphia Eagles and their Super Bowl victory last year.

Weidl, a former offensive lineman, has been a big reason the Steelers have improved in the trenches over the past few years.

He made a big impact in the Steelers drafting offensive tackle Troy Fautanu (who had an impressive first full season after he missed almost all of his rookie season due to injury) and Derrick Harmon (who made a direct impact in the rushing defense when he played).

Weidl also helped identify starting center Zach Frazier, starting guard Mason McCormick from South Dakota State and fifth-round defensive lineman Yahya Black.

With the Steelers in need of major roster pieces, including quarterback and an entirely new coaching staff, losing Weidl now would be a big hit to the organization.
