Clemson is holding its Pro Day Thursday and according to reports, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Kevin Colbert and offensive coordinator are among those in attendance.
With Clemson having several NFL prospects working out, it’s no surprise that the Steelers top guys are on the ground to watch the action.
Of course all eyes are on running back Travis Etienne, who holds the record for rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns in ACC history. He was also named the ACC Player of the Year in both 2018 and 2019.
While Etienne will be among the first running backs taken in the draft, 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi warns the Steelers should not take him.
“Steelers fans shouldn’t want Travis (Etienne). System back. I’ve heard he can’t pass block to save his life,” said Fillipponi.
But Etienne probably upped his value on Thursday when he ran an impressive 4.40 40-yard dash.
Mock drafts show the running back possibly going around #24 or even slipping into the second round.
With James Conner likely signing elsewhere and no definitive #1 back on the Steelers, Etienne would fill a big hole on the offense.
But The Steelers wouldn’t bring their decisions makers down without having some other players in mind.
Other possible players include offensive tackle Jackson Carman, tight end J.C. Chalk and wide receivers Cornell Powell and Amari Rodgers.
Tomlin was seen talking to Clemson coach Dabo Swinney for an extended period of time during the Tigers Pro Day.
The 2021 NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 29.
