High school students from underserved communities got free prom dresses and more Wednesday.
A Place Called Home, a non-profit, hosted the South L.A. event called the “Teen Empowerment Boutique” to help alleviate costs for hundreds of high school seniors. It’s also a partnership with the L.A. Lakers. The Laker Girls even helped teens pick out their outfits.
“I am a personal shopper today. This is a job I've always wanted and I finally got it,” Kiesha Nix, the Vice President of Charitable Affairs with the Lakers, said.
Students were able to pick out jewelry, dresses, suits, shoes, and purses.
One student told KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian that her senior year expenses aren’t the only costs her parents have to cover and there are many other students just like her that this event is providing hope for.

“It's just like hope, not just for me but for my parents too,” she said.
The event didn’t stop at prom attire, the non-profit also gave out outfits for job interviews, internship interviews, and for graduation.
