Clare Dunn rocked the house at SilverLakes in Norco Thursday afternoon during the Our Country Fourth of July Celebration!
Sandwiched between the immensely talented, pop-oriented Presley Tennant (whose set included a nod to her Voice coach/mentor Kelly Clarkson with a cover of "Because of You") and headliner '90s alt. rock band Smash Mouth, Clare brought the country influence to the multi-genre festival, along with plenty of classic rock by way of covers from Bob Seger, Creedence Clearwater Revival (who "introduced me to a lot of great music"), and Led Zeppelin, and Tom Petty, as she dedicated "Won't Back Down" to military servicemembers.
The romantic side of her songwriting is evident in songs like "Put You Into Words," "Move On," and "Gold to Glitter," which she described as being about "watching the sun go down with someone you love," but all of them were performed with Clare's signature bluesy swagger, as was her cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep."
"I graduated with eight people," Clare recalled of her high school in Southeast Colorado farm country. "That's not a good dating situation. I know we're not that far from Hollywood, but I don't need a man who takes longer to get dressed than I do," she explained as an introduction to "Tuxedo."
She expressed her gratitude toward "Horse Town U.S.A." for embracing her music, along with country radio, as she wished the audience a very happy Fourth of July.
