One in five American children is in desperate need of shoes. Shoes That Fit in Claremont aims to tackle one of the most visible signs of poverty in America by giving children in need new athletic shoes to attend school with dignity and joy, prepared to learn, play and thrive. Their Back to School Backpack Campaign will be underway July 1st through the 23rd, and the community is being asked to pick up a backpack from participating businesses and organizations, and fill the backpack with a brand new pair of sneakers, socks and school supplies. Amy Fass, Executive Director and CEO of Shoes That Fit, discusses how a new pair of shoes can help boost a child's self-esteem and their academic success.
