Let me state that I am NOT a baker. This was the first cake I have ever baked in my entire life. And it was for a dog. Yes, I am "that" person!

My sweet Kona turned 8 years old on Saturday, and typically I order a fabulous dog birthday cake from The Seattle Barkery, but I completely spaced! Instead of panicking, I went straight to the internet, of course. I found an easy, healthy, homemade dog birthday cake recipe courtesy of Top Dog Tips, and I didn't mess it up!! Important tip: Make sure the peanut butter you use does not contain the ingredient xylitol, which ins't good for your four-legged friend.

The cake baked while I was doing chores around the house, and let me tell you - it smelled so good! We opted to make the frosting, too, and I decorated it with a dog bone.

We had four dogs at Kona's birthday party, and we gave them each a small piece. Verdict: She loved the cake and HATED the flower crown, hence the look of disdain in her birthday photo!

We refrigerated the rest of the cake and have given them little nibbles over the days that followed! Happy dogs, for sure!

Happy Birthday, Kona girl! I hope to celebrate at least 8 more birthdays with you.

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
