St. Louis (KMOX) -- The St. Louis Board of Aldermen is expected to hold a special meeting this week to vote on extending the City's mask mandate.

The original health order expires on Friday due to state law.

Aldermanic President Lewis Reed says he does not expect any controversy as the virus spreads.

"At this point, with some of the new data that's coming out, they will more than likely support it," Reed said.

Reed says they will just look at the mask portion of Mayor Tishaura Jones' health order.

"I don't think there will be a problem with the members of the Board going along with the mask mandate. The other things they attached to the mask mandate are not things we will be taking up," Reed said.

Those "other things" include spending on pandemic programs.

The mask mandate in St. Louis County has been blocked after a judge issued a preliminary injunction last week. County Executive Dr. Sam Page is pushing for the County Council to introduce a new mandate.
