Congressman Adam Schiff and former Dodger player Steve Garvey will face off in November to represent California in the U.S. Senate.
In an interview with L.A.’s Morning News’ Vicky Moore and Mike Simpson, Schiff reflected on his victory.
“Look, I'm thrilled with the result,” he said. “We move into the general election campaign now and I think voters responded to a message that we need to get things done in California. We need to bring down the cost of housing. We need to address the shortages of available accessible childcare. We need to get moving again.”
Schiff also defended going after Garvey rather than his fellow Democrats, noting it is a “great thing” to not have the party go against each other.
“Spending millions of dollars tearing each other down, I don't think that's particularly good for the party,” he said. “I think the opportunity now [is] to get out, win the Senate race, re-elect [President] Joe Biden, help elect other Democrats up, and down the ballot.”
He added that the presidential race is what will drive voters to the polls rather than the Senate race.
“People are gonna turn out to vote for Joe Biden or some are gonna turn out to vote for Donald Trump, but it's the presidential race that drives turnout,” he said. “And more than that, if we don't have two Democrats spending millions and millions bashing each other over the head, those are resources that can be used to help elect other Democrats to the House in California and to the Senate around the country.”
KNX News extended an invitation to Steve Garvey for an interview. We are waiting to hear back.
