Driver suspected of critically injuring 16-year-old bicyclist in hit-and-run arrested

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KNX) — Santa Monica police have arrested the 29-year-old man suspected of hitting a 16-year-old bicyclist and fleeing the scene over the weekend in Santa Monica.

The crash happened at 2:08 a.m. in the area of Chelsea Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. The person who called 911 told police that the vehicle involved fled the scene and was last seen traveling north on 23rd Street from Santa Monica Boulevard.

The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was found on the ground with severe injuries, according to Santa Monica police Lt. Rudy Flores.

She was taken to a local hospital, where she is currently in critical condition.

On Sunday, detectives took Maximiliano Ramos Santiago into custody at his Los Angeles residence. He was booked on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving without a license, police said.

Investigators towed his black Chevrolet sedan, which will be processed for evidence.
