A new installation honoring children who lost their lives to online harms was put in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, blocks from where the landmark social media trial is underway.
The Lost Screen Memorial in Grand Park features large-scale smartphones, each with the face of a child who died, their parents say, because of social media harms. The memorial was spearheaded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and was previously unveiled in New York City in April 2025.
“We didn't volunteer for this,” one parent said. “The significance of the Lost Screen Memorial here in the park right around the corner from the courthouse, simply means this to me - our children are still here fighting with us for justice, accountability, awareness, and change.”
On Monday, the landmark social media addiction trial kicked off in downtown L.A. The head of Instagram made a court appearance on Wednesday, and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to testify next week. The parents invited him and other company heads to visit the memorial.

“Bring your children, and have them ask you if you're the boss,” a parent said. “Then explain to your children what you do and have done to so many.”
