SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — One day after Google announced a hybrid workplace model requiring employees to come into the office three days a week, Twitter has revealed that it will allow employees to work remotely forever.

Following a 2-year hiatus, the social media service is allowing employees back into the office on March 15, but their in-person presence will not be required.

"The decisions about where you work, whether you feel safe traveling for business, and what events you attend, should be yours," Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal said in a statement to employees. "Wherever you feel most productive and creative is where you will work and that includes working at home full-time forever."

Agrawal said the following year will not come without challenges as the company navigates handling in-person and remote employees. "Distributed working will be much, much harder. Anyone who has joined a meeting remotely while others are in a conference room knows this pain," he acknowledged.

However, Twitter's top priority moving forward is the safety of the staff.

"There will be lots of challenges in the coming months, and we’ll need to be proactive, intentional, learn, and adapt," Agrawal said, adding that details on safety measures will be coming soon.
