San Francisco Police are investigating an alleged robbery in which a young Asian girl was forced inside her family’s bathroom while robbers ransacked their home.
The incident happened Friday afternoon in the city’s Portola neighborhood before the homeowner returned from a family cemetery plot in Colma, KGO reported. Ironically, the homeowner told the station his vehicle was broken into earlier that day while he was picking weeds and tidying the area around the graves.
His 11-year-old cousin, who was distance learning on Zoom when it happened, told officers she was grabbed by two suspects and told to stay quiet in the bathroom while they went through the house.
The young girl scrawled "Help…robbers!" in pencil on the bathroom wall, along with her name. She reportedly wasn’t hurt.
The suspects reportedly used pillowcases to steal thousands of dollars worth of foreign currency and cameras.
It's not yet clear if the incident was racially motivated, but is the latest in a series of crimes against Asian Americans in the Bay Area.
