Removal of the crane that collapsed on an old east Dallas apartment complex, is finally starting.
Heavy equipment was brought in over the last two weeks and additional cranes were stationed last weekend in an effort to remove the huge structure, that remains wedged in the side of Elan City Lights apartment building.
Crews will have to cut the crane into sections using blowtorches. While this is happening, Dallas fire will be on hand to monitor their use.
The crane collapsed in a severe thunderstorm June 9. One person was killed. Residents of the 124 units directly impacted will have to wait for the crane to be removed and for engineers to give the all clear, before they find out if they can get back inside.
The crane's removal is expected to take about two months.
