THE COLONY (1080 KRLD) - Police officers, firefighters, doctors and nurses. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder at Methodist Dallas Medical Center Wednesday, in honor of The Colony Police Sergeant David Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick was removed from life support after suffering a heart attack during a workout June 7. As he was moved from the hospital's ICU for surgery to donate his organs, fellow first responders and medical personnel lined the halls for an Honor Walk.

Police officials in The Colony released a statement:

"Sergeant Fitzpatrick worked for The Colony for 28 years and was our most senior police officer. He will be sorely missed by his family, police family, and the countless citizens of The Colony he has served since 1991. We are working with the family to determine funeral arrangements and will announce those plans once they have been finalized. Any notes or cards for the family can be dropped off inside the police department near the Police Records window, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m."

Officials with Methodist Dallas say the Honor Walk is a tribute to the organ donor and family. It's also a reminder that a single organ donor can save up to eight lives.
