FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A motorcyclist and passenger were treated for injuries at a Fort Worth hospital after leading a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper on a chase Monday afternoon.

According to DPS, the Trooper attempted to stop the bike on U.S. 287 in Wise County around 3:30 p.m. Monday. Authorities said the motorcyclist evaded the Trooper and continued south on U.S. 287 at a high rate of speed.

After the pursuit reached north Fort Worth, the motorcyclist merged onto I-35-W south and attempted to enter the express lanes.  DPS said the driver failed to negotiate a curve and slammed into a concrete retaining wall.  The motorcyclist and passenger fled on foot, but were caught a short time later.

Troopers said that as the pair were running, they threw backpacks off an overpass. When recovered by DPS, those backpacks were found to contain illegal narcotics and a firearm. Authorities said the motorcycle was reported stolen in Dallas.

The motorcyclist and passenger were transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with injuries not considered life-threatening.
