The City of Arlington has canceled its 4th of July Parade for the first time in its 55 year history. Organizers made the announcement Thursday evening.
The city had already announced the Light Up Arlington festival would be canceled, and while the fireworks show would go on, it would be moved to the Entertainment District.
By moving fireworks out of downtown, Arlington said families could park in lots outside AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor to more easily "set up chairs or tailgate at safe social distances and enjoy the free show."
In Downtown Arlington Thursday, residents were split on the decision to cancel the parade and also split on the face mask requirement for businesses in Tarrant County, which will take effect Friday at 6 p.m.
"Just leave it alone. It's a cold. Let the virus run its course and be done with it," one man said. "All the masks before have not stopped it. They're not going to stop it again."
"It's crazy how everybody's getting more relaxed and not taking it seriously," another said. "You just want to be as safe as you can. I have no problem with it."
Fireworks in Arlington will begin at 9:30 p.m. July 3. These parking lots will open at 8 p.m.:
*Texas Rangers Lots B, C, F, M and N
*Dallas Cowboys Lot 4
*Parking lots at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor and outside the Arlington Convention Center
