DALLAS (KRLD) - Protests due to the killing of George Floyd continued in the Dallas area on Saturday, causing in both the North Park and Galleria malls to close their doors to the public.
Out of caution, North Park closed its doors at 2 pm Saturday afternoon, with protests set to begin at the mall at 4 pm.
The protests began on Friday night in the downtown area outside of the Dallas police department, and eventually resulting in officers using what was assumed to be tear gas on the protesters after the scene became violent.
"Texas and America mourn the senseless loss of George Floyd and the actions that led to his death are reprehensible and should be condemned in the strongest terms possible,” said Governor Abbott said in a statement. “As Texans exercise their 1st Amendment rights, it is imperative that order is maintained and private property is protected.”
