If you're a resident of Dallas County with COVID-19 and nowhere to quarantine, temporary housing could be a good solution.

Dallas County Health and Human Services is launching a Quarantine Housing Program intended to give eligible people with COVID-19 a temporary place to stay while they isolate, without exposing their families to the virus.

LaShonda Worthey with the DCHHS says the program is designed for people who are sick but can’t quarantine at home because a member of their family might have a compromised immune system.

"They will be able to isolate anywhere from 14-21 days here at the Walnut Hotel," Worthey says. "But the referral has to be through the healthcare provider, the physician, nurse practitioner or social worker."

Worthey says the program is completely voluntary but if you choose to participate you will be quarantined in your hotel room for the duration of your stay.

Lodging is free, and quarantined people will be served three free meals per day. Rooms have microwaves, refrigerators, WiFi and televisions. A laundry service is also available.

"There are restrictions that come with it," Worthey says. "No smoking, no vaping, no alcohol use."

She says medications will not be provided and the "Quarantine Hotel" is meant for people with mild cases of COVID-19.
