DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he will announce details Thursday on additional actions that could be used to combat the spread of coronavirus.
Governor Abbott was in Arlington Wednesday after the death of a 77-year-old man was reported there.
"We're dealing with something, however, that is not just statewide in scope, not just nationwide in scope, but is worldwide in scope, and I will be providing an announcement that addresses all of this," he said.
Abbott did not give details during a press conference Wednesday. When he was asked about potential state-wide restrictions on bars and restaurants, he said he has been meeting with local officials to develop a strategy and will announce more Thursday.
"Texas and Texans are living in challenging times, but Texans are always up to those challenges," he says. "We've dealt with SARS, we've dealt with H1N1, and we've dealt with Ebola. We will get through this just like we got through those other infectious diseases."
Abbott issued a state-wide disaster declaration last Friday. Since then, three people have died from coronavirus, including a 64 year old man in Collin County and a 77 year old man who lived in Arlington.
In its latest update, the Texas Department of State Health Services said 1,907 people are being tested for coronavirus.
Dallas County now reports 39 confirmed cases.
Collin County Judge Chris Hill says 11 cases have been confirmed there, with 66 others being monitored.
Tarrant County has reported eight cases. Denton County reported three additional cases Wednesday, bringing the total there to five.
Johnson County reported its first case Wednesday.
