Local school districts are getting ready to welcome students back to campus in August.
Yesterday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his decision to reopen school campuses for in-person instruction in the fall.
Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos says that's the best learning environment for kids.
Dr. Cavazos says since it's unlikely that the COVID-19 pandemic will be over by August, students will have the option of continuing their course work online, should they not feel comfortable going inside school buildings just yet.
The Fort Worth and Garland school districts had previously announced that their students will be given that same option.
Governor Abbott is expected to offer additional reopening guidance next Tuesday.
The Dallas ISD has set the date for employees to return to their campus. Employees have been working from home for months because of the pandemic.
District leaders wanted them to return on July 6th. That's now been pushed back to August 3rd. The Dallas ISD will screen employees when they arrive at district facilities and will provide masks, gloves and hand sanitizer.
The district will also encourage employees to wear face masks, but will not require them.
