DALLAS (KRLD) - Senator John Cornyn and Senator Ted Cruz are putting pressure on the Federal Emergency Management Agency to finish its assessment of damage from the October tornadoes that touched down in Dallas and across North Texas.

Both Senators have signed a letter to FEMA urging the agency to work quickly to finish its damage assessment and send those findings to President Trump.

The letter calls FEMA's process for tabulating the storm damage "slow and taxing". The Senators say it is preventing communities from moving forward in their recovery efforts.

Insurance industry officials made a preliminary estimate after the storms of $2 billion in damage, which would make it the most expensive tornado outbreak in the history of Texas.

The City of Dallas and Dallas County have both tabulated millions of dollars in damage to local government facilities and infrastructure.

FEMA's final report will likely play a major role in whether the region receives a federal disaster declaration because of the storm, which would impact federal resources available for recovery efforts.
