FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Tuesday Morning locations in Fort Worth have reopened. Last week, the city's code compliance department ordered three locations to close, saying they were not considered "essential" businesses.
Fort Worth Code Compliance said the stores make less than half their revenue from food or pet food sales. Code Compliance says Tuesday Morning stores were allowed to continue selling as part of "retail to go" or with curbside pick-up.
The stores opened Monday, with employees hanging "Now Open" banners outside.
One woman walking into the store near Hulen Mall says she was buying curtains and sanitizing wipes.
"I just decided to stop closer to my home than go farther to Home Depot because it's a high traffic area," she said. "Tuesday Morning's just as essential for me as Home Depot."
Tuesday Morning's corporate office says stores opened after receiving approval from the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
"Tuesday Morning has received confirmation from The Texas Department of Emergency Management that we are an 'Essential Business' because we sell food and other essential home goods, including pet supplies and personal/body care items, to our customers through our retail operations. As such, we are operating stores and providing essential items to our communities in a manner that is consistent with our highest priority: the safety of our employees and customers. We are using the minimum personnel necessary to perform these functions while maintaining appropriate social distancing and other precautionary measures at all times to prevent the spread of COVID-19," the company wrote in a statement.
