The Rangers held on Sunday for a 9-8 win to complete the sweep of the Mariners in what was Texas's final home game of the regular season.
The Texas offense was paced by six home runs: Two by Marcus Semien, and one each by Leody Taveras, Corey Seager, Evan Carter and Adolis Garcia.
Nathan Eovaldi allowed five earned runs in five innings of work. Although, three of those runs were allowed to score by Martin Perez, who wasn't as sharp as he has been since moving to the bullpen.
Jonathan Hernandez, Brock Burke and Jose Leclerc combined for 2.1 innings and zero earned runs out of the pen to lock down the win.
Meanwhile, the Houston Astros were swept at home by one of MLB's worst teams this season, the (now) 54-102 Kansas City Royals.
Kansas City took the final game of the three-game set by beating the Astros 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Minute Maid Park.
The loss and the Rangers win dropped Houston 2.5 games behind Texas in the race for the AL West division crown heading into the final week of the season. Seattle is 3.0 games back of Texas and a half-game behind Houston.
The Mariners and Astros will face off in a crucial three-game series beginning Monday in Seattle. Texas will head west to take on the Angels in a three-game series before finishing with a four-game series in Seattle. The Astros will finish with three games in Arizona against the Diamondbacks, who are fighting for an NL wildcard berth.
