AMC Theatres will screen two Dolly Parton movies at about 200 locations nationwide through Wednesday, the chain announced Thursday after the country star’s death.
“Steel Magnolias”“Steel Magnolias” (1989) and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” (1982) start Friday, Aug. 28, and run through Sept. 2, Variety reported. Where possible, theaters will offer two daily matinees — one of each film — at AMC Fan Faves discounted prices. AMC CEO Adam Aron announced the tribute on X.
Parton died Tuesday at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer, her representatives said. She sold more than 100 million records and won 11 Grammys. She also built a film career in the 1980s.
In “Steel Magnolias,” Parton played salon owner Truvy Jones alongside Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis and Daryl Hannah. The film is rated PG. In “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” she starred opposite Burt Reynolds as Miss Mona, operator of the Chicken Ranch, and earned a Golden Globe nomination. That film is rated R.
Regal is running a similar tribute in Tennessee and said proceeds there will go to Parton’s Imagination Library, The Daily Wire reported. AMC’s list includes theaters in Parton’s home state; local showtimes are on amctheatres.com. North Texas fans should check that site for participating screens.
