Hoping to end three years of contract haggling, American Airlines is offering its pilots a two-year deal with built-in pay raises of nearly 20%.

The pact was accepted by the Allied Pilots Association bargaining committee but still has to be ratified by the rank-and-file. The details were sent to American's 15,000 pilots Thursday.

According to reports, the raises would push pay for the most senior Captains to more than $430 per hour.

This development will be closely watched by the other three major airlines including Southwest, Delta and United because they too are negotiating new contracts with their pilots.
