On Wednesday hundreds of crashes were reported as ice coated the pavements on roads across North Texas.

In Grapevine, a police squad car was rear-ended by a sliding car while the officer was out assisting a stranded driver on an icy bridge. No one was hurt but police used the incident as a reminder to drivers to slow down.

Grapevine police reported multiple crashes along Highway 114 and Highway 121 where ice made traction impossible. On east-bound 114, traffic was backed up to Roanoke.

McKinney police were forced to close part of Highway 380 due to an 8-vehicle crash. MedStar crews responded to 28 crashes Wednesday before 8 a.m.

Meanwhile, Americans Airlines has already canceled more than 600 flights thursday, most of them at DFW Airport. Including other airlines, more than 1,000 flights have been taken off the board at DFW, split about half-and-half between incoming and outgoing.

At Dallas Love Field, Southwest Airlines has canceled just under 100 flights Thursday almost, 60 outbound and 36 in-bound.

Also, DART rail routes are canceled again today. DART buses will be running on a Sunday schedule.
