Arlington teacher selected for Rangers home opener first pitch after Governor backs out

ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD)- An Arlington teacher feels pretty good about being asked to toss out the season's ceremonial first pitch at yesterday's Rangers home opener.

Dunn Elementary 5th Grade teacher Audrey Simmons says her pre-game effort included a photo with former President George W. Bush and then an enjoyable afternoon watching her favorite team from her childhood in Arlington.

Until four hours before game time, Simmons had no idea she'd be throwing out the first pitch.

Governor Abbott had been invited to do the honors but backed out in a political dispute with Major League Baseball.

Simmons says she and her husband quickly went out to the back yard so she could practice. It must have worked because she did not bounce the ball up there.
