The move to TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney is working out very well for the AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament.
The Salesmanship Club Charitable Golf of Dallas announced the tournament raised $7.6 million for Momentous Institute, a new record for the 54-year-old tournament, bringing the total raised for the organization to $180 million.
The 2022 tournament was the second hosted at TPC Craig Ranch. Thanks to reduced pandemic restrictions, the Nelson boasted its first sellout since 2008. Sponsorship sales were also strong.
"We're really grateful to the community that supports us, and we can't wait to follow it up next year," said tournament director Jon Drago.
The thousands of golf fans descending on McKinney was also great for North Texas as a whole. Tournament officials say an economic impact study showed a $55.4 million impact for the area.
"We got our first real look at what economic impact the AT&T Byron Nelson could bring for the first time in a while," Drago says. "As we see that area grow, we know that we've found a great home for the AT&T Byron Nelson in McKinney."
In McKinney alone, the Nelson provided $28.8 million in direct economic impact, $17.9 in direct spending and supported more than 270 jobs in the city.
