Ft Worth ISD has begun the process known as leveling; adjusting campus staffing to match actual student enrollment.
Superintendent Dr. Peter Licata said the district is down about 2,500 students from its enrollment projections. He said some schools are seeing significant enrollment growth, while others have much smaller class sizes.
“Leveling is about reapportioning resources and realigning resources to where the schools may have increased or decreased in enrollment,” Licata said.
The district said most students and campuses will not be affected. However, some employees could be reassigned from schools with lower enrollment to campuses with greater staffing needs.
Licata said the goal is to address large differences in class sizes, noting that one classroom could have 40 students while another has only eight or nine.
Deputy Superintendent Dr. Daniel Soliz said the district will consider each campus individually, including enrollment, specialized programs, and the needs of high-need schools.
“There’s not a one-size-fits-all formula,” Soliz said.
The district has already started reviewing enrollment and staffing and hopes to have affected employees in their new campuses by around Labor Day.
