FIFA regulations require AT&T Stadium to be temporarily renamed “Dallas Stadium” during the 2026 World Cup to avoid corporate branding. But the decision has stirred frustration in Arlington, where the venue actually sits.

In a Dec. 12 Arlington City Council meeting, Mayor Jim Ross described the change as a “tough pill to swallow,” and emphasized, “Arlington has to be recognized,” arguing that calling the venue Dallas Stadium disregards the city’s identity and contributions

Ross also urged sharing credit more fairly by noting, “We’re happy to call it the Arlington‑Dallas Stadium,” advocating for a compromise name reflecting both cities

Monica Paul, Executive Director of the Dallas Sports Commission, confirmed her team has formally reached out to FIFA to propose alternatives like “Dallas‑Arlington Stadium” or “Arlington‑Dallas Stadium,” though she says FIFA has not yet responded

Regardless of the naming battle, Arlington officials remain proud of hosting more World Cup matches (nine total) than any other U.S. venue and are focused on delivering a top-tier experience for visitors next summer.
