The Moncrief Cancer Institute is taking the wraps off its second Mobile Screening Clinic bus.
"The need for cancer screening is so great, we needed a second unit that would be able to actually go into communities where people live and do cancer screenings," says Dr. Keith Argenbright, Moncrief Cancer Institute director. "This doubles our capacity to be able to go out into the community and offer twice as many screenings as we were able to before."
The bus is equipped with the latest medical technologies, including digital 3D mammography and high-speed telemedicine links to cancer experts.
"One of the barriers to getting a cancer screening for some people is just geography. So they just can't get to a doctor's office, or they can't get to a hospital for a screening," says Dr. Argenbright. "On this van, we'll be able to do breast cancer screening, prostate screening and colorectal cancer screening."
Eligible Tarrant County residents can visit the bus Thursday, March 21, at the Potter's House, 1270 Woodhaven Blvd., Fort Worth; on Thursday, April 4th, at the White Settlement ISD; and on Saturday, April 13th, at Beth Eden Baptist Church, 3208 Wilbarger St., Fort Worth.
Money is no barrier to visit the mobile clinic.
"If you are uninsured or underinsured, we have funds in order to cover not only the screenings, but any diagnostic services that you might need after the screen," Argenbright says.
The $1 million mobile clinic is funded by Tarrant County through a three-year, $9 million grant awarded to the institute in 2022 as part of the federal funding the county received through the American Rescue Plan Act.
