GARLAND (1080 KRLD) - Today is Build Garland Day, and to celebrate, city officials are breaking ground on a series of big bond projects.
City Manager Bryan Bradford kicked off the celebration this morning with ground-breaking ceremony number one, at Bob Hall Park, which represents one of 24 new playgrounds being built across the city.
"There is in fact $117 million in the bond program just for Parks and Recreation improvements," Bradford said during the ceremony. "This is a great investment for Garland and we can't wait for all of you to be able to enjoy these new amenities."
"Our voters spoke very clearly during the bond process that parks needed attention, parks needed more money, parks needed updating," Garland Mayor Scott LeMay added. "We are certainly in that process today."
But parks aren't the only thing on the day's agenda. Officials are also breaking ground on the new Police Property and Evidence Building, as well as a new skate park. On top of that, they're raising signs for a new library and fire station.
Because of the pandemic, the general public is not invited to the ground-breaking ceremonies, however, they can be streamed online here.
