The person arrested after police say he stabbed someone on Interstate 635 in Dallas on Tuesday morning has been identified and more details released.
The incident came after a crash that shut down the westbound side of the highway near Forest Lane for three hours just after 7 a.m.
Police said one person, now identified as 26-year-old Angel Zamora Moreno from Plano got out of a car and started a fight with another driver. They said a third driver tried to intervene but was stabbed by Moreno.
The interchange is near the western edge of TxDOT's "LBJ East" project. A contractor is rebuilding 11 miles of I-635 from Highway 75 to Interstate 30. In exchange for the ability to collect tolls in managed lanes, the contractor is paying for construction and maintenance.
Dallas police said a TxDOT employee saw the crash, stopped, and got out of a car. They said the suspect then got into the TxDOT car, hit the employee, and crashed.
A different driver saw the TxDOT employee get hit and stopped to help. Police said the suspect then got into that driver's car, hit the driver, and got out.
Police say Moreno is now facing multiple counts of aggravated assault for being involved in a multi-car crash stabbing a bystander, stealing two cars, and running over the drivers.
"When the suspect exited the vehicle, several good Samaritans were able to hold the suspect down until officers arrived," Dallas police wrote in a statement.
Dallas Fire-Rescue took three victims to the hospital: The person who was stabbed was in a critical condition and the other two were stable.
Moreno also went to the hospital for evaluation. Moreno is facing a total of 10 felony charges including seven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, and one count of criminal mischief. He is now being held in jail on a more than $900,000 bond.
According to our media partner, NBC 5, Moreno was fired from his job at a Dallas contractor the day before the incident for undisclosed reasons.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Marc Tucker at 214-671-3621 or marc.tucker@dallaspolice.gov.
