The Dallas City Council has approved a measure that will move future municipal elections from the spring to the fall.
There has been ongoing discussion about the possibility moving all city elections to November of odd-numbered years.
Mayor Pro Tem Jesse Moreno was among some city council members to approve it with some concerns.
"This is not a silver bullet, it's not perfect, but anything that increases voter turnout is a good thing," Moreno said.
There were other concerns about some council members having to stay longer when the move takes place.
"Aligning our city elections with the November cycle brings more voters and thereby gives more residents a real voice in choosing their city leaders," City Councilwoman Kathy Stewart said.
The City Council voted for it unanimously.
