The BMW Dallas Marathon Festival returns to downtown Dallas this weekend, bringing thousands of runners together for three days of races beginning Friday, December 12, at City Hall Plaza.

The schedule includes everything from the Friday Night Lights Mile to Saturday’s 5K and 10K races, followed by the marquee Sunday events: the half marathon, full marathon, and 50K ultra.

The festival is one of Texas’ largest and longest-running athletic traditions, drawing participants from across the country and offering options for every age and skill level. Friday’s mile race kicks off the celebration with multiple heats for youth, casual runners, and elite athletes, while Saturday’s shorter distances give newcomers and families a chance to take part. Sunday’s endurance events then wind through downtown Dallas and surrounding neighborhoods, continuing a route that has become a signature of the city’s winter sports calendar.

Race organizers say each event comes with finisher medals and on-site festivities, including music, refreshments, and a central race village near City Hall Plaza. With road closures scheduled throughout the weekend and large crowds expected, officials encourage spectators and runners to plan ahead for parking and transportation as Dallas gears up for one of its biggest annual fitness weekends.
