The City of Dallas may move to keep sexually-oriented businesses open only at certain times.

Dallas has no rules for when sexually oriented businesses can operate, meaning many stay open until well after 2 a.m. So in an effort to curb crime, police are working on recommendations to the City Council about when such businesses can operate. Councilmember Paula Blackmon says setting hours may be needed.

"My mom always said nothing good happens after midnight and I'm sure nothing good happens after 2 so I will be supporting that because I just feel, if anything it's a time to clean the establishment," Blackmon said.

But councilman Omar Narvaez says the city can't pick on only certain businesses.

"A lot of times sexually oriented businesses are the first to be attacked, the first to be blamed, the first to be seen as locations of business that are causing crime, and causing all kinds of bad things, nefarious things to be happening in that area," Narvaez said. "Some of that may be true and the vast majority of it is not."

Recommendations will likely come next month.
