The Dallas Zoo has announced that President and CEO, Gregg Hudson, passed away late last week following a brief but valiant battle with cancer.

A release from the Dallas Zoo says that Hudson served as the president and CEO of the Zoo since 2006. He also served on the national board of directors for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), as well as on the boards of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund (Rawanda) and the Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (Democratic Republic of Congo).

Hudson led the Zoo through the creation of a public/private partnership with the city of Dallas in 2009, opening the award-winning 'Giants of the Savannah' habitat in May 2010.

Prior to taking over at the Dallas Zoo, Hudson spent 10 years as the Executive Director and CEO of the Fort Worth Zoo, and more than 5 years as the President and CEO of the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

At the family's request, donations in honor of Gregg can be made to the Dallas Zoo or the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
