DALLAS — For the first time in several weeks, drivers in North Texas and across the state are seeing a reprieve at the gas pump. According to the latest data, gas prices have decreased significantly over the past week.
A Welcome Downturn
In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the average price for a gallon of gas sits at $3.65 today. This marks an 18-cent drop from just one week ago.
The statewide trend is similar:
- Statewide Average: $3.74 per gallon (down 13 cents from last week).
- Highest Prices: El Paso remains the most expensive market in Texas at $3.97 per gallon.
- Lowest Prices: Lubbock and Amarillo share the lowest average at $3.38 per gallon.
While this is positive news for commuters, experts note that prices are still approximately $1.00 higher than they were at this time last year.
Why are prices falling?
This is the first statewide price decrease since late February. Several global factors are contributing to the decline:
- Oil Trading: Crude oil is currently trading below $100 a barrel.
- Geopolitical Developments: A two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran has helped ease some market pressure.
The Road Ahead
While the second consecutive week of falling prices in DFW is a good sign, analysts remain cautious. Persistent regional tensions, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, continue to keep the global energy market sensitive to new developments. It is too early to determine if this downward trend will become a long-term shift.
