Former Dallas city councilman Dwaine Caraway has been released from federal prison after a few years behind bars.
Caraway was released on February 7th, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
Caraway was had been sentenced to just over 4 years, but got it reduced by five months for testifying last summer against developer Ruel Hamilton, the man who was convicted of paying bribes to Caraway and the late former Dallas City council woman Carolyn Davis.
Caraway pleaded guilty to taking $450,000 in bribes from promoters of a school bus stop-arm camera system in exchange for helping advocate for the system's widespread adoption.
Caraway had been doing his time at the Big Spring Federal Correction Institution, near Midland. He was first elected as a Dallas City Council member in 2007.
