The Euless Police Department is now deploying drones as part of a new emergency response initiative aimed at boosting public safety and improving how first responders handle critical incidents.

The Drone as First Responder (DFR) program officially launched on July 2 and uses unmanned aerial systems to provide real-time video from emergency scenes—often arriving faster than patrol cars or fire crews. The drones will be dispatched to high-priority 911 calls, including reports of suspicious activity, traffic crashes, disturbances, and fires.

“This technology gives our officers a clearer picture of the situation before they even arrive,” said Sergeant Robert Provost. “It improves public and officer safety, while increasing our efficiency on scene.”

Drone pilots—trained and certified by the department—will operate the flights from remote launch sites and monitor live feeds to relay information to first responders en route.

The city emphasized that the program is not designed for general surveillance, and that drones will only be launched in response to specific calls. The department says all operations are being conducted in compliance with FAA regulations and strict privacy policies.

“This represents our commitment to innovation and public trust,” said Senior Corporal Tim Banigan. “We’re using this technology responsibly and transparently.”

The Euless drone unit, first established in 2018, has previously assisted with search and rescue missions, traffic investigations, and crime scene documentation. City leaders now see the DFR expansion as a model for future public safety programs in North Texas.

Police Chief Gary Landers called the launch “a major step forward” and said the technology will help officers respond “safer and smarter.”
