Plano (1080 KRLD) - Plano Fire-Rescue has confirmed that there was an explosion this afternoon at a local home.
Fire-Rescue says they received calls about a home explosion at 4:40 p.m.
Once on the scene at 4400 BLM of Cleveland Dr, they found that one person from the home itself was transported to a local hospital, as were five others from a house next door.
Of the six people who were injured three were transported to Plano Children's Hospital, the others went to the Medical Center of Plano.
"We are saddened by today's tragedy of a house explosion in our city," said Plano Mayor John Muns. "Several of our residents were injured. We are keeping them and their families close to our hearts and hoping for a swift and full recovery. Plano Fire-Rescue is working diligently to determine the cause of the blast. We're asking all of you to keep the victims in your prayers."
According to fire-rescue, the explosion could be felt a mile away, while homes across the street from the blast suffered blown out windows.
As of 7:30 p.m., fire-rescue says that Plano's bomb squad was on the scene as per protocol. Also at the scene are Atmos Energy, Oncor, and fire-rescue investigators as they search for the cause for the explosion.
Electricity and gas has also been shut off for the block, again as per protocol.
