Fans pack streets around Alliance ahead of air show

The Bell Fort Worth Alliance Air Show will bring an estimated 120,000 people to Alliance Airport this weekend, and some fans started gathering outside Friday. Many of the acts started rehearsals.

"Definitely, whether it's the Blue Angels or Thunder Birds, we never miss it," one woman said as she watched with her husband.

"It kind of lets us know what's going on with our tax money and how the military operates," one man who had come with his kids and grandkids said. "It just kind of a demonstration of our freedoms. It's a really good thing."

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are among the performers this year. The Blue Angels are marking their 75th anniversary and also flying their new F/A-18 Super Hornets.

"That's our highlight is the military planes," one person said as she watched near 35W and Westport Pkwy.

Last year's air show was presented as a "drive-thru" event, with people urged to stay with their cars.

Organizers are taking precautions again this year. Each car will have a space left open in between, and people are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and stay near their cars.

The air show is also debuting a 1.5 acre "Landing Zone" with educational exhibits, a beer garden, dining options and photo opportunities.

Tickets are available at AllianceAirShow.com.
