FIFA has unveiled a small soccer field in what is known as a mini-pitch in the community of Lake Dallas.
The goal behind the move is to provide more opportunities for kids to play soccer and have access to the sport ahead of next year's World Cup.
Lake Dallas Mayor Kristy Bleau says it's an opportunity for something that the city would otherwise not be able to afford.
"This mini pitch provides a space for the young athletes can develop skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of the game," Mayor Bleau said. "It's a place where teamwork, discipline, and perseverance are learned lessons that extend far beyond the field."
Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell says it is more than just a field.
"It is an investment in our youth, our neighborhoods, and the future of soccer in North Texas," Commissioner Mitchell said.
"This space will serve as a place where young people can gather, play, grow, and dream, not just today, but generations to come."
The field takes over two existing tennis courts at Lake Dallas City Park just north of Lewisville Lake.
FIFA wants to leave a legacy of youth engagement ahead of the World Cup.
